Singers Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo called it quits in September after almost three years of dating. Sources close to the couple said that their breakup was mutual and that they “still care very deeply for each other and will remain in [each other”s] lives as friends.” That same week, during an interview with KDWB in Minneapolis, Jason confirmed the sad news but said that everything is “cool,” adding, “It”s not a bad situation, it”s not one of those kinds of things.”
Zach Braff and model Taylor Bagley dated for five years before splitting in April. “Zach and Taylor broke up over a month ago,” his rep confirmed to the Page Six, adding, “They are continuing their friendship but are no longer a couple.”
Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell ended their two-year marriage in May. The couple, who tied the knot in October 2012, announced their split through a statement, saying, “Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell have decided to separate. They both love and respect one another and will of course remain committed to co-parenting their son. This is a mutual decision and the two remain close friends.” Jamie and Evan are parents to a baby boy, who was born in July.
After a year of marriage, Amber Rose filed for divorce from Wiz Khalifa in September, citing irreconcilable differences. She also asked for full legal custody of the couple”s 1-year-old son, Sebastian.
Britney Spears and David Lucado”s split wasn”t without its controversy; the singer announced the breakup with a cryptic tweet in August, writing, “Ahhh the single life!” Days later, during one of her Piece of Me concerts, Britney addressed rumors that David was unfaithful, telling the crowd, “So I know you know my boyfriend cheated on me,” adding, “But the best thing about being cheated on is I get to go on more first dates.” Britney is currently dating TV producer Charlie Ebersol.
Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult called it quits in August for the second time; they split for the first time in January 2013 after two years of dating, and both times cited “different schedules” as their reasoning for the breakup.
In early November, Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn announced their separation after 13 years of marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2001 and have three daughters — Finley, Avery, and Emery.
Just 10 months after getting engaged, Robin Wright and Ben Foster ended their relationship in November. The couple, who was last spotted together at the Golden Globes back in January, ultimately decided to call it quits due to scheduling conflicts. Jewel and her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray, called it quits in July after nearly six years of marriage. The singer announced the sad news on her blog, saying, “Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together.” The couple has one child together, 3-year-old Kase.
In June, Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart broke up after more than two years of dating. The couple”s split was plagued with rumors of infidelity; reports swirled that Casper cheated on Jennifer, though a source close to the singer and actress said the claims were “100 percent not true.”
Victoria”s Secret model Adriana Lima announced that she was separating from her husband of five years, former NBA player Marko Jaric, in May. “After long and careful consideration, we have decided to separate after five years of marriage,” Adriana and Marko said in a joint statement they released to People. “We are grateful to be the parents of two incredible young daughters that we will continue to co-parent. The couple has two daughters together — 4-year old Valentina and 1-year old Sienna.
John and Katy called it quits for good in February after dating on and off for two years. A source told Us Weekly at the time, “She”s stressed about the tour. They”ve been fighting. It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course, this happens all the time; I can”t keep track anymore. But for now, they are done.”
In June, Melanie Griffith filed for divorce from husband Antonio Banderas after 18 years of marriage. The couple released a statement through their rep, saying, “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together.” The couple has one daughter together, 17-year old Stella, and Melanie is also the mother of son Alexander Bauer and Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson from her previous marriages.
Eliza Dushku and Rick Fox dated for five years before literally going their separate ways in June.
The actress moved back to her native Boston while Rick, a retired NBA player, decided to stay in LA. Of the breakup, Eliza told The Boston Globe, “Rick”s an LA guy and I”m a Boston girl,” adding, “I”d rather be a little physically cold here than emotionally cold in LA.”
After rumors began spreading in August that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon”s marriage was on the rocks, sources revealed that the couple was “living apart,” and that things between them “have been bad for a while.” Nick confirmed the split rumors soon after, saying, “There is trouble in paradise. We have been living in separate houses for a few months.” The couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2008, just weeks after they began dating. They have two children together, 3-year old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald separated in March after two years of marriage. “They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations,” Nikki”s rep said in a statement People at the time, adding, “They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together.” In July, Nikki began dated The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, and their relationship seems to be going strong.
Rapper Big Sean and Glee star Naya Rivera called off their engagement in April amid plenty of controversy. According to Big Sean”s rep, the rapper was the one to end the couple”s relationship, saying that “after careful thought and much consideration, Sean has made the difficult decision to call the wedding off.” There were reports that Big Sean had been cheating on Naya, which his rep denied, adding, “The recent rumors and accusations reported by so called or fake sources are simply untrue. Sean wishes Naya nothing but the best and is still his hope that they can continue to work through their issues privately.”
In July, Naya surprised everyone when she secretly wed a longtime friend, actor Ryan Dorsey, in Mexico. “We feel truly blessed to be joined as husband and wife. Our special day was fated and everything we could have ever asked for,” the couple told People. Reports quickly spread that Naya married Ryan in the same location, on the same date, and wearing the same dress as she was planning to wed Big Sean. The rapper has moved on as well; he”s currently coupled up with singing sensation Ariana Grande.
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie”s split has had many people scratching their heads this year; they announced their separation after three years of marriage in January, and in a statement, Hilary”s rep said that the pair “have mutually decided [upon] an amicable separation,” adding: “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other”s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son and ask for privacy at this time.” Since then, they”ve been spotted out and about together on many occasions, both alone and with their 2-year old son, Luca. Mike and Hilary”s closeness has led to rumors that the two have rekindled their romance, but neither of them have confirmed those reports.
Another couple that has remained close since their split is Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. They were married for more than 10 years and had two children together when they announced that they were “consciously uncoupling” in March. They are clearly still on good terms, as they took a getaway to the Bahamas with their kids after their split and have had multiple dinner dates in LA. Chris Martin went on to date actress Jennifer Lawrence for a few months, and Gwyneth has been linked to Glee producer Brad Falchuk since August.
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton”s 20-year relationship came to a close in February. The two had been dating on and off since they were 14 and got married in 2005. In April 2010, they welcomed their son, Julian Fuego Thicke, and they made their last public appearance in late January when they attended the 2014 Grammy Awards together. After the split, Robin made multiple public attempts to win Paula back — he dedicated songs to her during concerts, performed a tune called “Get Her Back” at award shows, and even named his critically panned album Paula.
In early August, Joe Jonas split from girlfriend Blanda Eggenschwiler after almost two years of dating. His rep said in a statement that “Joe and Blanda have mutually decided to part ways,” adding, “The split was amicable and the two remain friends, with great respect for one another.”
In August, Ansel Elgort split from his high-school girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan. Sofia Vergara and her fiancé, Nick Loeb, broke up in May. The Modern Family star — who got engaged to Nick in July 2012 — announced the split with a photo posted to her WhoSay account. Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas broke up in April after nearly two years of dating. A source close to Harry said, “He found her too needy, and it just wasn”t working out.” A week before the split, the two were spotted spending time apart in London, and the split came right before Harry was set to embark on a royal tour of Europe and South America in May.
In August, Ciara called off her engagement to Future. The singer, who gave birth to the couple”s first son, Future Zahir Wilburn, just three months earlier, reportedly split from the rapper after she discovered that he had been unfaithful.
After three years of dating, Kelly Osbourne broke off her engagement to vegan chef Matthew Mosshart in January. A statement from Kelly”s rep said, “The split is amicable and the pair continue to have nothing but the utmost respect for one another.”
