Manchester United News And Transfers Red Devils To Launch 19million Bid For Raphael Varane
Here are today”s Red Devils stories from the Sunday Mirror…
Juventus eye Falcao
Juventus have set their sights back on Radamel Falcao – in the belief that the Colombian striker will NOT be staying at Manchester United.
The Italian club were interested in Falcao last summer when Monaco were touting him around Europe to clubs able to match his £300,000-a-week wages over the course of a one-season loan deal.
United came up with the cash for that – and were ready to pay Monaco £46million in a permanent deal if the 28-year-old was a hit at Old Trafford.
But the former Porto and Atletico Madrid talisman has scored just three goals for the Reds in 15 appearances.
United chasing Schneiderlin
Manchester United are set to make it a three-way battle for Morgan Schneiderlin.
PinnacleHeading north? Schneiderlin is a target for United
The Southampton midfielder is wanted by both Arsenal and Tottenham.
Now United are ready to move in.
Manager Louis van Gaal has been using Michael Carrick to great effect in central midfield, but the Englishman will be 34 later this year and Schneiderlin would be the ideal long-term replacement as Van Gaal continues his re-building job at the Old Trafford giants.
Class of “92 take charge at Salford
Paul Scholes and Phil Neville took temporary charge of Salford City yesterday after the club surprisingly sacked its existing management team.
Neville – a joint-owner of the club – was due to come in as caretaker for the Evo-Stik encounter against Kendal Town.
And the former Manchester United man was in the dugout, alongside Old Trafford legend Scholes for a cagey 2-1 win over mid-table Kendal.
Manager Phil Power and his assistant Dave Chadwick were removed from their positions on Friday despite the club sitting in third position in Evo-Stik Division One North.

Real have an array of talent in central defence and could be willing to let Varane leave for a fee of around £19m.
According to reports in Spain, United are looking to sign Varane and are readying a £19m move for the 21-year-old.
The Express report Juventus have warned Manchester United target Arturo Vidal that he will be sold at the end of the season unless his performances dramatically improve.
Valerio PennicinoMust do better: Vidal could be shown the door at Juve
The Chile international came close to joining the Red Devils during the summer after Louis van Gaal tabled a bid of around £40million.
However, Vidal turned down the opportunity to move to Old Trafford, but has failed to hit the same heights of last season in Turin.
Double defensive swoop?
The Express also report Manchester United are plotting an audacious double defensive swoop for Borussia Dortmund”s Mats Hummels and Schalke”s Benedikt Howedes.
Christof KoepselMats the way: Hummels has been linked with an Old Trafford switch for a long while
The two Germany internationals are at the top of Louis van Gaal”s wishlist as he looks to reinforce his options at the back.
Hummels and Howedes were both targets for the Red Devils last summer, and both are now actively searching for a way out of their respective clubs.
