Liverpool Transfer Window Preview Can The Reds Fix Their Season With A Visit To The January Sales
After a summer of enough wheeling and dealing to make Lord Sugar blush, Brendan Rodgers could have perhaps been forgiven for thinking at the start of the season that the January transfer window would have been a fairly quiet affair.
But it doesn”t look like that is the case. Entrenched in mid-table, out of the Champions League at the first hurdle and struggling to replace a certain bitey Uruguayan”s goalscoring antics, Liverpool”s tranche of summer signings are yet to set Anfield alight.
So, what will the imminent transfer window bring for Rodgers and his transfer committee? Our man on Merseyside, David Maddock runs the rule over what could be a busy January for the Reds…
Who”s on way out?
Clearly the way that Rodgers has handled Borini in the past month or so suggests he is looking to sell him to raise some funds. Wouldn”t expect many more to leave, but it appears the likes of Lucas, Glen Johnson etc aren”t seen as players for the long term so it wouldn”t surprise if negotiations began with other clubs, even if they are more likely leave in the summer. I”m sure Rodgers would get rid of a fair few players if he could find potential suitors for them.

Is there any budget to spend?
Only a small sum on top of what is raised through sales, expect them to be looking into the loan market. Don”t believe FSG will budge from their transfer structure (structure not policy), despite the poor form this season.
Where do they need to strengthen?
Dropping Mignolet for the extremely below par Brad Jones indicates a keeper will be targeted. Elsewhere it”s hard to not see them going in for another striker considering the injury problems of Sturridge and the lack of top class quality the other forwards possess.

Who could they bring in to fill those positions?
Signing a goalkeeper will be tough- considering Liverpool won”t want to pay a massive amount, and you can”t expect any team to part with a top class keeper half-way through the season. If Petr Cech is at all available expect him to be targeted for a fair part of January. If not it could be a number of foreign keepers from other leagues. The same applies to strikers, not many will be available unless the correct amount of money is offered. Bony, Benteke, Lacazette are the obvious targets.

Who do you think they will end up signing?
Considering Liverpool”s strange dealings in the transfer market, it could be anyone. Wouldn”t be at all surprised if they paid a little bit extra to bring Divock Origi back half from loan a season early, considering Lille”s current situation.
