Steven Gerrard to leave Liverpool

Steven Gerrard will announce today that he will bring down the curtain on a remarkable 17-year Liverpool career at the end of the season.

The Reds” skipper has decided to make the decision public now to head off endless speculation over the remaining six months of his contract.

And while Gerrard has options to continue playing on in Major League Soccer with either defending champions LA Galaxy or New York Red Bulls, he has yet to make a definitive decision over where his future will lie.

Los Angeles seems the most likely destination, but he will not be rushed into an immediate decision.

What the veteran midfielder has decided though, is the time is right to hang up his boots at Anfield after more than 20 years at the club he joined as a nine-year-old academy attendee.

Rodgers: We got what we deserved

Brendan Rodgers admitted that his Liverpool side got what they deserved – after they threw away their lead in a two-minute spell against Leicester.

And Kop boss Rodgers said: “I don’t think we played well and Leicester played very well, and we didn’t deserve to win it.”

The Reds had been gifted the advantage by two controversial first half penalty decisions – slotted home by Steven Gerrard.

But Rodgers blasted his defence, as they twice allowed the visitors to knock the ball down on the edge of the box and score from distance.

He said: “We got what we deserved in the end, I don’t think we played well and Leicester played very well. We found ourselves 2-0 up in a game where I didn’t think we deserved to be, and we should have closed it out from there."

Reds handed Bony boost

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted that he would consider any offers for in-demand striker Wilfried Bony.

PABoost: Huw Jenkins has admitted the club will listen to offers for the Ivorian

Bony became the Swans” most expensive signing of all time when he arrived from Vitesse for around £12m in the summer of 2013 and the 26-year-old could be set for another big-money switch.

Jenkins claimed that he is yet to hear anything concrete from the supposed suitors, but said that he would look at any potentially incoming bids.

“As things stand we have not had any contact from anyone with respect to Wilfried,” the Swansea chairman said. “It’s just speculation linked to a player who is the top scorer in 2014 in the Premier League – which is perfectly natural.

“First and foremost I will consider everything that arises at the time. But as of yet we haven’t got anything to consider. Players move around – that’s a fact of life.

Prospect of bench drove Gerrard away from Anfield

The Express report that the prospect of being a substitute in more matches next season as Brendan Rodgers manages Steven Gerrard”s fitness has helped shape the Liverpool skipper”s thinking, along with a desire to sample a new culture with his young family after 16-years shouldering the burden for Liverpool.

He will remain totally committed to Rodgers in the final five months of the season and will target winning more silverware and propelling Liverpool into the top four.

Gerrard returned to the starting line up for yesterday’s stalemate over Leicester City at Anfield after being rested for Monday’s win over Swansea.

He will not play for another club in England out of respect for Liverpool.

Berahino available for cheaper than first thought

Liverpool target Saido Berahino could be available for £14m, according to talkSPORT.

The Reds have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the young forward after it emerged on Wednesday that he could be allowed to leave for less than originally thought.

The Baggies were initially holding out for around £23m but Berahino”s insistence on leaving could weaken West Brom”s position.

It is believed the England Under-21 international is keen to move to Anfield, with Tottenham also interested in the youngster.

Young trio join Cheltenham on loan

Three of Liverpool FC”s youth prospects have joined Cheltenham Town on a one-month loan, report the Liverpool Echo.

Full back Kevin Stewart, centre back Lloyd Jones and midfielder Jack Dunn have all joined to the League Two club and go straight into the squad for Cheltenham”s away game at Oxford on Saturday.

Robins manager Paul Buckle revealed his relationship with Reds Academy director Alex Inglethorpe helped seal the deal for the trio.

“Bringing in players of this calibre is a real coup for Cheltenham Town,” said Buckle.
