It was a good day for the Brits at today”s Golden Globe nominations – with Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and Rosamund Pike being among those shortlisted.

Eddie and Benedict go head to head in the best actor in a motion picture drama for their roles in The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game, respectively.

Rosamund was given the nod for her role in blockbuster movie, Gone Girl, and is joined in the Best Actress Felicity Jones in the Best Actress category for film by fellow Brit, Felicity Jones.

Downton Abbey”s Joanne Froggatt got a nomination for her portrayal of rape victim Anna Bates in the popular ITV drama. The show was once again recognised in the US for Best Television series.

The nominations for the 72nd year of the prestigious awards were announced at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be held in Hollywood on January 11.

Selma”s David Oyelowo is shortlisted for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role as Martin Luther King, Eddie Redmayne joins him for his appearance in The Theory of Everything.

Ralph Fiennes is up for best actor in the comedy or musical movie category for The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Keira Knightly is up against Emma Stone and Meryl Streep for best actress in a supporting movie role for The Imitation Game.

The Imitation Game has been somewhat of a success this year, Brit Graham Moore is up for Best Screenplay, and Cumberbatch is up there for his starring role in it in the best actor category.

American favourite Ricky Gervais is up for an award for best performance by an Actor in comedy or musical TV series for his role in Derek.

The Missing as also been popular, it is up for Best mini-series, and Martin Freeman is up for best performance by an actor in a mini-series made for television.

Clive Owen is also up for best drama TV actor in The Knick.

Helen Mirren also got shortlisted for best actress performance in a comedy or musical movie, and Emily Blunt also got a nod.
