Danny Cipriani and Nick Easter will make sensational returns to England’s rugby squad on Wednesday.

The pair have between them not started a single Test match since Stuart Lancaster became head coach three years ago.

Sale fly-half Cipriani, 27, last wore England’s No.10 shirt in 2008, since when he has attracted more headlines off the field than on it.

Harlequins No.8 Easter, nine years Cipriani”s senior, has not made a Red Rose squad since Martin Johnson quit as boss following the 2011 World Cup.

But Lancaster has decided that no stone should be left unturned in England”s pursuit of home World Cup glory this autumn.

Both players will join what England have described, unusually, as a ‘senior training squad’ – aimed specifically at the championship opener against Wales in Cardiff on Friday fortnight.

Also called up is in-form Bath centre Jonathan Joseph, but clubmate Sam Burgess, a high-profile convert from rugby league, must settle for a place in the second-string Saxons squad.

Luckless Northampton fullback Ben Foden will play no part in thr Six Nations after confirmation he has ruptured an anterior cruicate ligament in his left knee.
