Arsenal Should Have Finished West Ham Off Sooner At Upton Park Admits Danny Welbeck
A relieved Danny Welbeck believes Arsenal”s narrow win over West Ham United should have been more comfortable.
The £16million England striker scored the second goal to add to Santi Cazorla”s penalty as a quick-fire double gave the Gunners a 2-0 advantage at the break.
However, Chiekhou Kouyate responded for the home side and Arsene Wenger”s charges were forced to withstand heavy pressure in the closing stages as West Ham bombarded the Arsenal box with high balls.
This came after Hammers goalkeeper Adrian kept the hosts in the game with a number of eye-catching saves in the second period, and Welbeck was disappointed the result was not secured sooner.
He told the club”s official website: “I think we had a couple of opportunities [to seal the win]. I had one and a couple of the other players had opportunities to finish the game off earlier, so we’re a bit disappointed with that.
"[Adrian] made some good saves, but the main thing is that we got the three points. I was pleased to get the goal and I’m looking to score many more goals. If I get the opportunity, I’ll try to put them in the back of the net, so I’m a bit disappointed with the one in the second half as well.

“It was a very important game for us going into the Christmas period and we’re delighted to come out with three points.”
The win took Arsenal above West Ham into fifth and victory in New Year”s Day trip to Southampton will see them move ahead of the Saints, and crucially, into the top four.
However, Welbeck is taking nothing for granted against a side who doggedly held Premier League leaders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at St Mary”s on Sunday.
“It’s going to be another tough game and we’re looking forward to it,” the ex-Manchester United forward added.
“We’ve got to prepare very well – there’s not much time to recuperate as a team and we know that when it comes to New Year’s Day, we’ll be ready.”
