British boxing star Amir Khan has visited the school in Pakistan that was hit by a massacre which left 148 people dead – to encourage its students to return to education.

Khan travelled to the site on Monday to pay his respects to those who had lost their lives when Taliban militants raided the school in Peshawar on December 16.

Khan donated his £30,000 shorts from his WBC welterweight win against Devon Alexander to help with the rebuilding of the Army school.

Of the 148 people who were killed by the gunmen, 132 of them were children.

Khan spoke in a press conference in Islamabad when he arrived in the country last week and insisted that it was more important than ever to travel to the stricken region.

He said: "Talking about this stuff could be threatening for me, but I just want to speak the truth and tell people what is happening is wrong.

"I think it”s more important now than ever to go over there. I think it will send a statement to a lot of people that Amir Khan is going there to make a difference.

"I want it to be a better country. It”s just a shame – I cannot believe how sick some people are."

During his trip to Pakistan, Khan announced that he would be opening a boxing academy in the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore.
